Technical information
- All our tiles are hand-made and the charateristics of this traditional process means there can be small variations in size, shape and colour in the final tiles. This adds to the special impact these tile have, but it is important that you or your clients understand that they will not be getting machine-made uniformity. If you believe there is any chance that this could be a concern then we recommend that you view a sample or an existing installation of the tiles before ordering and we cannot be responsible for claims arising from this inevitable product variation.
- Most tiles are available on a range of background glaze colours: cream, off white, and white. Other glazes are available as special order, but please be aware that the firing process and the glaze pigments may not deliver exactly the final effect you are hoping for on non-standard glazes. Please contact us to discuss any requests you have.
- The tiles are thicker than many machine-made tiles. they are approximately 1cm (0.4 inch) thick, but some variation in thickness is inevitable because they are hand-made.
- Most tiles are available on 4 inch square and 5 inch square tiles.
Some can also be made on 6 inch by 3 inch ("subway").
- The images on the tiles are fired on and are durable and easy to clean. They are a very practical decoration for splashbacks in kitchens, shower and bathroom walls, mudroom walls and so on. They are beautiful enough to enhance other areas as well, of course, but the manufacturing method used to make these fine artistic reproductions produces a permanent but surface decoration so they are not suitable for worksurface or floor use. The decoration itself is suitable for external use when applied to suitable tiles although the current range is recommended only for interior use.
- Please note that because we have a large range, and many options, we do not carry large stocks. Please plan for production and delivery times within your project. We will normally be able to produce and ship within four weeks, although occasionally it may be longer (in which case we will tell you, of course). Custom tiles, or variations on existing tiles, may take longer. We can arrange for express shipping if time is really tight, but that will add some cost.
